Plain English summary: BudgetVault is a free offline budget tracker. You are responsible for the data you enter. We make no backups. All your data stays on your device. Use the CSV export regularly.

1 Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of BudgetVault, accessible from budgetvault.app, operated by the BudgetVault Team.

By accessing or using BudgetVault, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of these Terms, please do not use the service.

2 Service Description

BudgetVault is a free, offline-first personal budget tracking application. It allows you to:

  • Track income and expenses manually
  • Create and manage budgets by category
  • Set up recurring transactions
  • View spending analytics and charts
  • Export your data as CSV

The service is provided as-is, free of charge. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the service at any time without prior notice.

3 User Responsibilities

By using BudgetVault, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • You are solely responsible for the accuracy of data you enter into the application.
  • You are responsible for maintaining backups of your data via the CSV export feature.
  • You will not use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
  • You will not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise extract the source code of the application.

4 Data & Privacy

All financial data you enter into BudgetVault is stored exclusively on your own device using your browser's IndexedDB storage. BudgetVault does not transmit, collect, or process your financial data on any server.

5 No Warranties (As-Is)

BudgetVault is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

We do not warrant that:

  • The service will be uninterrupted or error-free
  • Any calculations or financial summaries shown are accurate for tax, legal, or financial reporting purposes
  • The service will be compatible with all browsers or devices
  • Your data will not be lost due to browser updates, clearing browser data, or other user actions

BudgetVault is a personal finance tracking tool, not a licensed financial advisory service. Do not make critical financial decisions based solely on information displayed in the app without independent verification.

6 Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the BudgetVault Team shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:

  • Financial decisions made based on data or calculations displayed in BudgetVault
  • Loss of data resulting from clearing browser storage, switching browsers, or device failure
  • Any inaccuracies in budgeting calculations or projections
  • Any indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the service

7 Data Loss

Important: Read before using BudgetVault.

Because all your data is stored locally in your browser, the following actions will permanently delete your BudgetVault data:

  • Clearing browser cookies and site data
  • Clearing browser history and cached files
  • Using private/incognito mode (data may not persist between sessions)
  • Uninstalling the PWA from your device
  • Using a different browser or device

We strongly recommend using the CSV export feature regularly to create backups of your financial data. BudgetVault does not create or maintain any backups of your data.

8 Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of BudgetVault after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.
